July 2014

Its hard not to love July. The coast is awesome with fairly mild days while inland the days in West Sonoma county are warm with great swimming in the Russian River and wonderful hiking. Check out my "Things To Do" page for some great activities. It is a month where you can pick your temperature range. A bit warm inland? Go to the coast and hike the Kortum trail or any of the other trails I have listed. Take a dip in the Russian river or hike into Austin Creek for a swim (hot hike so leave early). Bike up the relatively cool and shady Willow Creek canyon with no cars on a dirt road. Go to Salmon Creek Beach and hike through the dunes. Or chill at the house in the hammock and go out to dinner in my favorite towns, Occidental or Graton. Can't go wrong!! The days are getting shorter once again as if to say "get on with it!".

Occidental Farmers Market: This is a winner!

Hopmonk Sebastopol: Here's the current lineup

Pinot and Pizza in Freestone July 13th.

Freestone: Gotta give a plug here to Freestone which is mentioned elsewhere on this site. Its a great drive through Occidental then down Bohemian Hwy or take Occidental road to Jonive, take a left on Jonive to Bodega Hwy. then Down hill to Freestone.

Sebastopol Weather

Sebastopol Farmers Market: Every Sunday Year round.

Friday July 11th: Occidental arts and ecology center: Lonely heartstring band. This is a fabulous venue just a quarter mile uphill from Occidental and it's rare for them to host concerts. I don't see this event on their website but you can give them a call. Sounds like a winner.

Occidental Center for the Arts: July 26th. An evening of piano. Check it out!

Ives Park in Sebastopol: July 23rd. Frobeck: I don't know anything about the band but they apparently play "life-altering" songs in a funk rock genre. Ives park is a very pleasant venue in down town Sebastopol with a beautiful lawn and large redwoods.

Friday July 18th: Occidental Center for the Arts: Kacey Jones: This lady comes very highly recommended and sounds like a true musical character definitely worth seeing. Dinner outside at the Union Hotel before the concert. Total winner.

July 19th Occidental Center for the Arts: Un Deux and La Guinguette: This sounds exotic! First pretend you are in Paris. Have a glass of your favorite beverage and let the music take you back to the French and Italian street cafes of the early 1900s.Wish I could go!

I will scout things out as they are booked!
