February 2014

Ok, I take back what I said about rain in February. Let me pull up my rocking chair for a minute and tell you about February 1977 because that is the only other winter I have seen as dry as this one. My homies and I were hiking in Tuolemne Meadows in the Yosemite high country in February, 1977 and there was no snow. Not only that, there was no internet! But that's another story... It was like a summer landscape in winter, except of course that the rivers aren't generally frozen in summer and the -6F at night was a bit nippy. I am writing this in January so I could  be wrong, but this weather pattern is implacable thus far. So you may just have to get out there and hike through the dry hills in beautiful weather! It's a hardship, I know.

Update: 2/2. The rain has come!! Raining now and there is more to come so get ready for green!
Update 2/6: February is living up to it's reputation! Rain this Thursday through Sunday! You will be able to hear the creek from the hot tub after that. So bring a rain coat cuz tramping around Sonoma County in the rain is still a blast.
Update 2/12: Nine inches of rain has fallen at the house! A green spring is assured.

February 8th: Occidental Center for the Arts. Singing in Caberet with fine wine and tasty things.

February 14th: Occidental Center for the Arts. Swing dancing with Out of the Blue Band. It's Valentines Day so swing your valentine around in Occidental!

Hopmonk Tavern Sebastopol: Here's the lineup for February. Check it out for your planned dates.

Feb 9th Joseph Phelps Freestone: Pairing Pinot with chicken. Hopefully the weather won't be foul.

Feb 28th Occidental Center for the Arts: Steve Gillette is a masterful song writer whose songs have been played by many a star. Cindy Mangsen is a very talented singer and musician as well so this one is a total winner if you like acoustic folk.

Chicago: Feb 11th at the wells fargo performing arts center in Santa Rosa. I saw them a couple of years ago and it was impressive. Some new faces but still an epic wall of sound.

February 8th at Hopmonk: The Spyralites are playing. Don't confuse them with the NSA band Spyingsallright. The Spyralites sound like the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, and the Beatles while the later can only be seen or heard with special encryption goggles.

Got art?: Graton does! Various exhibits in  January and February may be worth the five minute drive. Fish tacos for lunch at Mexico Lindo then see some local artistic talent?

Whale Watching Season is Open: We can only hope the whales have been notified.

Main Stage West; Yankee Tavern. This play is being performed most of this month. I have never seen a play at Main Stage West but I hear it is worthwhile.

Poor Mans Whiskey: Feb 15 in Sebastopol. Mark Twain said whiskey's for drinkin', water's for fightin'. Well, this whiskey is for listening.

Feb 22nd in Sebastopol: These women sound great!

That's all for now. I will keep my ear to the ground for ya!
