I have added the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University to my monthly blog. Green music is music that produces less CO2......kidding. The Green Music Center is about thirty short minutes from the house and is a world class venue for concerts with excellent talent every week. Check it out!
Update: 8/27/2014: The Napa earthquake gave west Sonoma county a shake but there was no damage. The Redwood House was unaffected with not as much as a cup tipping over. None the less we have always considered earthquake safety so the house has a lot of shear strength, is bolted to the foundation, and has a light roofing material. That's life in California!
Upgrade: Added a sonos subwoofer to the stereo system for a really great sound!
Graton Weather
Hopmonk Tavern Sebastopol:
Green Music Center:
Cajun Festival September 6th in Sebastopol: Beer, crawfish, BBQ, Blues and general merriment.
The Big Bad Love Tour: Sept 5 in Occidental: If you like funky folk, this concert is for you.
The Leftovers: Sept 21 in Occidental: Witty Americana, Blues, and boogie!
September 6-7: Sturgeons Mill run. This is a very unique experience for several reasons. First, The Sebastopol Redwood House was milled at this steam mill many years ago and there is a DVD in the house that will give you a history on that. Second, it's a walk from the house! Third, if you're going to hear that steam whistle you may as well saunter over there to see what's going on. My inlaws will be there as docents and the bearded man in charge is my uncle in law Harvey Henningsen who is also the photographer that took the pics in the house. Great fun.
Last Call for Summer: Don't believe it! Summer continues until at least mid October. But here is a list of things going on near the house. Fish Stock III in Jenner sounds like fun on August 31st. Any excuse to go to Jenner is a good one. See my "things to do" page and drive the loop with a stopoff in Jenner for some clam chowder.
Russian River Jazz and Blues Festival: Sept 20-21: A river area cultural event. Or is it a counter cultural event? You decide!
Occidental Farmers Market: Every Friday thru October. If you are at the house this is a must do. Occidental is about five minutes from the house and it's a fantastic town. This farmers market always has a few street musicians and a great vibe in addition to some great food. Beware of the organic vegetables though....I'm still laughing about paying $12 for two cauliflower.
September 20th; Occidental center for the arts. Piano, violin, clarinet.
September 13th: Gozalo Bergara Quartet. Sebastopol Performing arts center: Just mention "gypsy jazz" and you know these people are great musicians. Gypsy jazz is music that only truly talented musicians can pull off. Sounds like fun.
Will scope it out!
